My name is Laura and I teach modified yoga.
I believe that yoga should be enjoyed by each and every one of us. Yoga should not be limited to a studio or to those who have the ability to stand on their head!
To me -yoga means celebrating the connection between breath and movement. Yoga should be accessible to everyone and be affordable for everyone.
People with a physical impairment may not attend a studio class for fear they will not be able to fully participate. At Ability.yoga your impairment will be welcomed. Be it a physical limitation, a mental health condition or a learning disability.
The benefits of yoga reach far beyond the physical. It can help with anxiety, mood and sleep. It is a social session and I will tailor the classes to maximise participation. The classes are held weekly and it will be a way to meet new people in the community.
I would encourage people to contact me ahead of the class to tell me about any impairment they may have. I will also be able to share information about how to find the venue and about parking.
The sessions are running in a 6 week block currently.
Wednesday 9am at The Ancient Market Place in the centre of Kingston till March 23rd 2022
Wednesday 11am at EnhanceAble day centre Geneva Road Surbiton till March 23rd 2022
Saturday 10.30am at Searchlight centre (Mencap) New Malden until March 19th 2022.
Future blocks of yoga sessions will be advertised at a later date on here and/or my Instagram account. I am always looking for new venues that would be happy to host a modified yoga class.
Classes are normally £5 and your are able to drop in to them. This is because the locations that I currently offer the yoga in, allow me to keep the class at an affordable cost. This may change in the future however I will aim to keep the cost per student as low as possible.
I would encourage anyone who is a carer of someone with an impairment get in contact to find out more about the classes. Carers are most welcome to come and join in with the yoga class.
These classes suit everyone so please come and check one out to find out more about the benefits of modified yoga.
I enjoyed the class and will come each week’ A service user with a learning disability who attended the EnhanceAble yoga class at the day centre
