You might be experiencing problems at school, issues with your parents or generally not feeling like yourself. Counselling lets you talk about how you feel, separate from school and home life and can help you get back to enjoying life.
Children and Young People's Counselling is for any young person who's having problems. Whether it's depression and mental health concerns or issues with parents or people at school. Talking to a Relate Counsellor can help. Watch the video, in which Relate Counsellor Graham explains what to expect in counselling.
You can expect to be helped by a supportive and non-judgmental counsellor either at a local Relate Centre near your home, or you might see a counsellor in school.
You can be referred by a teacher, social worker, or you can ask to see a counsellor yourself – what you say is confidential unless the counsellor is worried about your safety.
Many of our young clients tell us that they feel happier after they see a Relate counsellor and are better able to deal with their problems. In some cases, the Relate counsellor helped them to concentrate better at school or college, or get on better with their friends and family.
To find out more about Children and Young People's Counselling, and to organise an appointment, book a counselling session at your local Relate Centre.
As a young person’s counsellor you have to be open and honest and give your clients time to open up.
