Who we are
Citizens Advice Wandsworth and Croydon are working together to provide free, specialist, confidential and impartial benefits, money and financial advice to local people affected by cancer.
Who we help
The service is open to anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis or who is having treatment at Kingston, Croydon, St George’s, or Epsom and St Helier hospitals.
We support people at all stages of the cancer pathway – from those recently diagnosed to those approaching the end of life. We also support their family members and carers.
What we do
We assist people who are worried about the financial impact of having cancer.
By assisting people maximise their incomes, we can help reduce this financial stress and anxiety so they can concentrate on getting well again.
We can identify all the benefits and grants that someone may be entitled to and can help apply for them. We support people until they are getting their full entitlement, often assisting with appeals and other challenges. Although most of our work concerns social security benefits, we can also help with related issues, such as employment and housing problems.
The service really does make a difference – last year we helped our clients obtain over £2 million.
How to access the service
People can contact us directly by phoning 0207 042 0332 (Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm). Alternatively, they can complete our webform at https://cawandsworth.org/our-projects/macmillan/. Referrals can also be made by social prescribers, and social care and health professionals,
We aim to get back to people in three working days – sooner if the matter is urgent.
