What is this service?

Black Thoughts is a monthly meet up for women of colour to discuss their mental health concerns in a non-judgmental, confidential space.

At the best of times it feels as though we are being silenced for expressing our true thoughts. the healthcare systems that are currently in place seem to be scrambling to be more ethnically aware of our needs, but do not necessarily invite us to sit at the table where key decisions are being held about us. The police who profess to 'Protect and Serve' overlook us and in many cases are the cause for some of our mental health difficulties.

My personal experiences: of being racially profiled, being invisible, silenced, have led me to create 'Black thoughts' to reaffirm the fact that for black women, women of colour, it is our voice that bears power. It is ultimately our voices that will help bring about solutions. Sometimes, vocalising the issue creates a pathway to bringing about the solution.

We will start our meet with an introduction from me followed by a 'Check in', where you'll be able to introduce yourself, how you are feeling and what you hope to gain from the group. this will lead organically into a group discussion where you will have the chance to express yourself. there is no pressure to contribute as I appreciate that some people may be reluctant to share amongst those they do not know. I get this. I just hope that with time these and anxieties dissipate.

I look forward to welcoming you and to the fruitful discussions that await ......
