Share and Care Homeshare

Share and Care Homeshare is a Community organisation that has been matching and mentoring homeshares for over 16 years. We find and vet 'Sharers' to live in the home of someone who would benefit from some affordable practical help and company, perhaps due to age, reduced mobility or disability.

What is this service?

Share and Care Homeshare

Share and Care Homeshare specialises in introducing live-in Sharers to Householders. Our Householders are normally widows, widowers or older couples who would appreciate some practical help and companionship in their own home at an affordable cost. The service is also suitable for anyone else who may benefit from some practical help and companionship, for example because they are disabled, or they or their partner is suffering from Dementia, Parkinson’s or another long-term illness. A live-in Sharer offers 15 hours of support each week in a mix of practical help and company.

Who do we help?

It is beneficial to anyone who wishes to maintain their independence and continue living in their own home, but needs a little practical help and company in order to do this.

As well as supporting older people, often with reduced mobility, sight or hearing, the service is also suitable for anyone else who may benefit from some practical help and companionship, for example because they are disabled, or they or their partner is suffering from Dementia, Parkinson’s or another long-term illness.

Where are we based?

Share and Care is based in Wimbledon and supports people in London and across the UK.

How much does it cost?

£150 per month.

Share and Care Homeshare is a Community Interest Company and keeps the service as low cost as possible.

What are the benefits?

Having a Sharer helps combat loneliness, anxiety and isolation and gives the Householder an agreed level of practical help and support in and around the home, plus regular friendly chats and the overnight reassurance and security. The practical help is usually given over four evenings each week and a few hours at weekends. Our Homeshare package can sit alongside other care packages for those who may require additional support or personal care.

How can I find out more?

A householder can contact us directly, or ask a family member or advocate to contact us on their behalf by phone or email. We are a friendly team and happy to have a chat about someone's specific situation to see if Share and Care Homeshare would be a suitable solution.

What sort of people are the Sharers?

They are normally aged 25+ and are mature PhD or Masters Students, or working during the week, and offer their time and help over the course of a few evenings each week, and some time at the weekends. They are carefully interviewed and vetted, and live in the home under the terms of a detailed Homeshare Licence Agreement.
