Pielarks is a small community folk choir that meets in North Kingston every Monday morning. We're a friendly and sociable bunch, and the meetings are informal and light-hearted, though we take our singing seriously!
A membership fee of £60 per year (£5 per month, £15 per quarter) goes towards the hire of the venue and incidental costs.
We sing traditional folk songs in harmony – rousing shanties and maritime songs, romantic ballads, pastoral and drinking songs, wassails, and songs of toil and trouble. Occasionally, we rise to the challenge of singing songs not in English.
Although we're a small group, we sometimes need to recruit new singers. Do contact us if you're keen to join.
We are open to adults of all ages. There are no auditions, but you should have a sense of rhythm and be able to carry a tune. The ability to read music is not essential, but would be useful. What's important is that you love singing and enjoy folk music.
Access to a computer, printer and Internet connection is necessary, as music and sound files for all songs are shared online.
We sing and play at the Wych Elm pub, in North Kingston, every second Sunday of the month. We have sung at the Vibrant Kingston event at the Rose Theatre, at a Canbury Bandstand summer concert and other concerts, at joint events with local Morris sides, and in a local nursing home. We also have regular social events.
Pielarks is a highlight of my week! It's great fun and very sociable. I've learned to sing in harmony, and been introduced to some lovely folk songs.

Teddington Choral Society was founded in 1951 and performed under several famous conductors. Their repertoire covers a wide range of genres. Although the choir is a community choir, with no formal audition entry, recent concerts have sold out and have received a lot of praises from the audience.
