ESOL Course

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Skills for Life programme is for adults aged 19 years and over who wish to make their home in this country - for example, settled immigrant communities, refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers.

What are the requirements?

  • No formal qualifications are required.

  • You will be assessed on entry to ensure you are placed on the correct level course for you.

  • Please bring along any previous ESOL certificates you may have.

  • A high level of commitment inside and outside the classroom. You will be expected to attend all classes and take a compulsory exam.

  • You must be in good health as the course is very intensive and students must commit and fully participate.

  • Please bring proof of nationality/status such as your passport/Home Office papers/ID card with you on enrolment days.

  • If you are in receipt of any benefits please bring evidence of this which must be dated within the last six months to be eligible for the subsidised fee.

  • Please visit the course information on Kingston College website to check if you are entitled to a course funded by the Adult Education Budget.

What does the Level 1, 2 and 3 course cover?

  • Speaking and Listening skills

  • Reading skills, grammar and vocabulary

  • Writing skills, grammar and vocabulary

  • Numeracy and computing skills.

Pre-Entry course: This is a beginners course for learners with a very low literacy level. This course will prepare you to progress onto Entry Level 1 once you have improved your confidence and literacy skills.

Bridging Class: This course is designed to bridge the gap between Entry Level, 2, 3 and Level 1. The main focus is to develop students' literacy skills, vocabulary and overall confidence in speaking and writing.
