What is this service?

OUR STORY

Aurora is a Kingston based charity founded by Susannah Faithfull in late 2006. Susannah based Aurora’s Approach on her own experiences as a survivor of childhood abuse and her professional work with other adult victims as a counselling psychologist.

From Susannah’s personal recovery, and later as a therapist, she developed an approach for her own practice which is now utilised at Aurora – this is called the “Aurora Approach”.  This  approach combines therapeutic and social interventions to help adult men and women heal from all forms of childhood abuse and trauma – especially sexual abuse.

SERVICES WE OFFER

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Aurora provides specialist counselling and psychotherapy interventions where clients can explore difficult and sensitive issues with experienced and sensitive practitioners. Counselling for childhood abuse helps victims work through their childhood traumas and the associated despair that is often experienced.

Success in your own recovery depends upon attending, fully participating and being totally honest in your therapy sessions. No one can do this for you - it has to be done by you with positive, caring support.

Time heals and healing takes time!

Survivor Support Groups

A monthly, one hour online peer support group is available for clients who are or have been in 1-1 counselling with us.

Walk & Talk

We offer a monthly social activity called the “Walk & Talk”. This takes place on a Sunday in nearby Richmond Park and again, it’s available to clients who are or have been in 1-1 counselling with us.

A support line is available for people on our waiting list

Other Social Activities/Events

We occasionally arrange social activities and events that are open to all the Aurora Community.

The Aurora "Community"

Many adult victims of abuse appear to function well in their daily working lives, however they may experience social isolation and/or difficulties in their intimate personal relationships. Aurora’s therapeutic community helps to reduce social isolation by providing social activities and interventions where clients can meet other victims and survivors safely.

We have a “Therapy Centre” in central Kingston where some clients receive their therapy and this is a place where people are warmly welcomed, respected and understood – where they can be themselves.
