What is this service?

We are a social care team within the adult social care department of the Kingston Council.

The Mental Health Social Care team work within the legislative framework of the Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

The team also signpost to appropriate resources in the community. Depending on a person's needs we can commission packages of care, including supported living at home or supported accommodation. We also undertake ongoing reviews of these packages of care, including placements in supported living and residential care.

Our team includes Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHP) who undertake Statutory Mental Health Act assessments under the Mental Health Act for people with mental disorders who may need inpatient care. We do this in conjunction with the SWLSTG Mental Health NHS Trust.

We do not provide any form of therapy for mental health issues. Such services are provided by SWLSTG Mental Health NHS Trust and other organisations and can be accessed at primary care level via the person's GP.

To contact the service call the Kingston Council Contact Centre on 020 8547 500 and ask for the Mental Health Social Care Team.
